The Youngest Mark Man in the World!

At the meeting of Walton Mark Lodge at Garston, we were honoured to receive a visit from three brethren from the University Mark Lodge, based in Liverpool, including Chris Storey, the youngest Mark Man in West Lancashire. Having spoken to the secretary of University Lodge, a source at Grand Mark lodge has indicated that Chris is the youngest member under our Constitution!

Chris is just 20 years old, and won't be 21 until next May.  A recent initiate into University Craft Lodge, Chris took the plunge to join Mark Masonry on the 16th of September this year, and was clearly enjoying himself on this visit to Garston. Chris is taking a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport and Exercise science at John Moore University, Liverpool, and is now in his last year of the course.

On the night Chris was advanced into the Degree, our Provincial Grand Master, Peter Connolly acted as Senior Deacon for the Lodge - a role he has fulfilled in at least two other Lodges this season, at Temperance Mark Lodge and West Lancs 65 Mark Lodge. He is always happy and willing to take part, and this must have left a lasting impression not only on the candidate, but also on all the brethren present. The Masters must only have felt, I am sure, a little increase in pressure on their ritual, with the PGM in front of them!

Chris was accompanied by W Bro Professor Gareth Royston Jones, PhD, BSc, PAGDC since 2009, the WM of University Mark Lodge. W Bro John Price, MA, CEng, Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering, is a PPrGJW in Mark, and PJGD in the Craft since 2003, and is the senior past Master in University Lodge. As John proposed Chris into University Mark Lodge, he was doing his duty here, in making sure Chris was well looked after, less than 2 months after he was advanced.

University Mark Lodge is open to members who have a University, professionally qualified or academic background, and would welcome approaches from such Mark men, or indeed Craft Masons for advancement into the Mark Degree. The Lodge meets in full academic gowns, and as such is a truly different and impressive Lodge to behold. The secretary, Bro David Roberts can be contacted on daver1943@tiscali.co.uk or on 0151 648 4058 if you feel you may wish to join, or visit.
